FanX 2024, Beta Launch, and Tabletop Simulator
Hello!
This is the first real blog post for the project, and it's a pretty significant one. FanX Salt Lake 2024 is happening!!! And we have a booth, tentatively numbered 2628. In this post, we’ll go over some information regarding the event and our plans for the full launch of the base Bootleg Heroes Trading Card “Game” set, Tournament Arc.
First things first - From September 26th-28th, we’ll have an exhibitor booth where we’ll be getting the word out about the project ahead of launch. We’ll be chatting about the game, handing out sell-sheets and demo-ing the game to those curious enough to give it a try. Due to production delays, we won’t be able to sell any of the three pre-constructed starter decks as originally planned, and our official launch window is pushed back to Winter of this year. However, we will still be selling an initial “Beta” print run of the set, containing the vast majority of the 151 card list (About 139 cards) that will be compatible with all the rest of the printed cards that release going forward. In some sense, you can consider FanX a sort of soft-launch or pre-release for the game under the “Beta” label, but make no mistake, the cards as-printed are functionally what they will be in the final release, pending any minor text erratas or art alterations.
One thing that will also unfortunately be omitted from this beta printing are the cute sketchy token cards we designed - There are only a handful of token cards that will launch, but due to similar production delays, they will not be released until the official 1.0 release of Tournament Arc. Until then, you’re absolutely encouraged to make some of your own!
Lastly, despite the various delays, we’re excited to finally get the game into peoples hands in some form, and it’s not stopping at the beta booster packs sold at FanX - As of today, you can actually currently play two of the three pre-constructed starter decks on Tabletop Simulator through our Steam workshop page! Having a Tabletop Simulator project page has been a long time coming, and there’s no better time to have it out than alongside our FanX presence for our beta soft-launch. The third and final preconstructed deck will be added to this workshop mod at another time. Click here to see the Workshop mod!
That’s all for now! The Bootleg Heroes Trading Card “Game” is a true indie labor of love. Card games in particular are logistically very challenging, and while its taken a lot longer to get to this milestone than I would have liked (At one point, I wanted to launch in 2020), I’m beyond grateful for everyone’s support thus far, and am looking forward to the future of the game’s full release and support, as well as being able to get to spend some time working on other exciting game projects once we launch. Thank you!
